“Forecasters have known for some time that hurricanes never arise spontaneously, even if the environmental conditions are considered favorable. Rather, they always emerge from preexisting circulations of presumably independent dynamical origin.”
Founded in 2020, Carnot Fund is a philanthropic instrument that focuses on immediate flashpoints of social need; sustained giving to non-profit organizations in which our founders have an ongoing participation or involvement; and venture-style angel investments in organizations that have under-represented founding teams and address an urgent social need in which we believe.

Why Carnot?
The name “carnot” comes for an 18th century French engineer named Sadi Carnot. Because of his work, we have this thing in physics called the “carnot cycle” which measures the efficiency of a system or engine based on the transfer of heat. There are a bunch of theories about how hurricanes are naturally occurring Carnot engines; in fact, Carnot refers to the fact that the energetics of a hurricane system may be idealized as an atmospheric Carnot heat engine: the upper bound on the maximum wind speed that a storm can attain. The research also shows that the existence of a Carnot engine is dependent on a number of factors contributing to its existence – achieving maximum energy is not a singular outcome. Plus, Andrew regularly refers to Cory as a hurricane and thus Carnot Fund was born.
